The NHS is now as old as my mum! Happy birthday! Because we sell private medical insurance does not mean we are against the NHS. We are offering an alternative to the NHS or something that works in conjunction with. I’d like to think that in a small way we and our clients are helping to free up the pressures on the NHS by going private.
Some plans offer private medical treatment and an element of NHS cover. These can be the most competitive in the industry. The NHS element states that if your operation is available on the NHS within 6 weeks of asking then you have the op on the NHS. If it’s longer than 6 weeks you go straight to private.
Given waiting lists at the moment you may never need to use the NHS element of the private medical plan. You go private all the way – and these plans may offer 25% off your premiums.
Like any other insurance it is risk based. You may never have your house broken into, car stolen or bike pinched. But it is likely you will require some form of help with your health either now or in the future. Will you want to risk your health having to wait for a consultant to see you, and then having to wait longer for a procedure? Private medical insurance will allow you to avoid NHS wait times and see specialists often within 48 hours. The NHS is then left to help those in real life threatening emergency situations.
